We walk, we run, we jump, we scramble, we slip and slide. We lift, we carry, we pull and we strain… all in the aim of giving your dogs adventures we can be proud of.
During an average week we will cover somewhere between 110 to 130 kilometres.
And whilst we have been doing this for years, we too are only human. We get sore and tired legs, we get niggles and small pains…. And we have to carefully manage these.
Making time to stretch and massage legs and shoulders is a crucial part of staying fit, not to mention core work and exercises.
I remember in my late 20s when I was living in the Alps and running ultra marathons with a good group of friends. The older members of the group would always warm up and stretch down before our adventures. The younger members in the group, and myself included, used to laugh at them.
They didn’t mind and would regularly just say “just you wait and see, you’ll be doing this in a few years”.
How unbelievably wise they were and how arrogant I was to believe I was invincible.
And so now when I find myself with a moment of free time, even if it is while sitting on the floor playing with my kids, I will just gently stretch out or massage those tired legs to ensure my recovery is as quick and efficient as possible.
If you don’t make time for stretching the injuries will find you.
