What spending a morning in kindergarten taught me about…. dogs

This morning as part of my daddy leave duties I ended up spending three hours in my local kindergarten with my daughter.

We are very fortunate that our daughter will be starting in exactly the same class that our son just left pre summer, with the same fantastic staff.

During the course of the morning I used it as a learning experience in how small children and dogs are incredibly similar.

Kindergarten teacher and dog walker go hand in hand.

We are both trying to create safe and stable environments for kids or dogs to maximise their potential.

Here are just a few of the similarities that I noticed:

Sit on the floor and let them come to you instead of going to them.

Ensure your communication is calm, clear and consistent.

If a Child of a Dog asks for a time-out and would like alone time for 5 minutes this must be respected….Both from the Caregiver and also from the other members in the group.

It is not always easy to share toys or sticks, so alternatives can be found.

When the group members become tired, tempers can fray.

There is enough love, attention and play to go around for everyone.

Everyone is unique and should be treated as such.

The list goes on and on but for the sake of brevity I will end it here for today.

A big thank you to the nine mini humans who contributed to my learning for the day.
