Funny little story from this morning but I think it proves the point in the title of today’s dogblog.
As I am sure you are aware there are some pretty major roadworks going on along the Oslo ring road currently.
They started on Monday and they are due to last six weeks or so. It is causing mild traffic chaos and long tailbacks in both directions, especially during rush hour.
Luckily for my pick ups this morning I was traveling counterflow.
However after my last pick up, to get to my walking adventure spot, I would have to meander and navigate the traffic.
I opened Google maps so as to get the status of the live traffic.
Google informed me that the quickest and most environmentally friendly route would take 57 minutes.
At once I knew this was illogical. On Monday morning after a similar pick up route I had found a much better way than sitting in traffic on the ring road.
And so with 11 years of knowledge comparable to a taxi driver in Oslo I went freestyle .
With every new turn Google was recalculating my journey and the minutes were tumbling.
A labyrinth of back roads allowed me to avoid almost all the traffic.
To cut a long story short we achieved the journey in 16 minutes (never once exceeding the speed limit) and I can assure all of you it was much more environmentally friendly than had we sat belching out diesel fumes in the queue on the ring road.
When technology does not give you the answer you are looking for, why not challenge it?
