Wow! What a start to the walking week.
This afternoon we were treated to one of the craziest short storms that I have experienced in my 12 years of living in Oslo.
As luck would have it we were finished just before the worst of the storm hit this afternoon.
We had a little bit of lightning pre-walk and I had delayed the start of the adventure so as the dogs could be as comfortable as possible.
I was continuously monitoring whether the lightning was approaching or heading further away from us. It is super simple to do if you do not know the formula….
When you see the flash of light you start to count… For every three seconds that go by until you hear the thunder, the lightning has struck one kilometer further away.
Some dogs do not seem to notice the lightning, whilst others become nervous and hesitant. The most important thing to do as a dog walker is to remain calm around the dogs.
At no part of our adventure did I feel that we were at risk. Had this been the case I would have sought a safe shelter or returned to the van.
As we drove back from the walk the heavens opened and the roads were suddenly flooded and inundated. Oslo’s drainage system had no chance given the power of the brief storm.
Not 10 minutes later and it was super calm and the sun had even come back out.
Welcome to the tropics, welcome to Oslo
It all brought a little more excitement to a Monday!
