This morning, as on so many other mornings, I was listening to a fantastic podcast.
The person being interviewed on the podcast was the former general manager of the number one rated restaurant in the world.
He had some fascinating insights but one quote which his father had said to him stood out:
“What is the one thing that you would want to do if you knew that there was no risk of failure?”
This got me thinking. Not so much about “the one thing” but more about people’s differing approaches and attitudes towards risk.
People have often asked about the risk of walking away from a career in London Finance to eventually starting up a dog walking business.
Yet I never saw it as a risk. Maybe a calculated risk. But there was little to lose. I didn’t want to be where I was, doing what I was doing.
Therefore why not take the chance and see what develops.
If it had failed, life would go on and I would have tried something else.
Better to have tried and failed, than live with the regret of never trying!
