A new way to measure rainy weather

Unless you have been asleep since yesterday you have probably seen and heard the rainy weather.

I actually really like it when it rains as the woods are empty. Oslomarka becomes our private garden and playground.

Today I took both my walks from popular car parks and yet there was not a car, person or dog to be seen.

But back to the rain and weather….. I feel that we need a better system for classifying rainy weather. I thought about this as we adventured ……. And this is my proposal for the new classification scale.

It is based on 2 measurements:

  1. How heavy the rain is (1 = refreshing mist / extremely light rain, 2 = light rain, 3 = medium rain, 4 = heavy rain, 5 = torrential downpour)
  2. The angle at which the rain is arriving. (If raining directly down (vertical) = 90⁰, if coming in horizontally = 0⁰, and every compass  score between 90 down to 0)

My proposed system allows for wind strength and rain density in a simple double measurement…..

So walk 1 was a 2.5, 40-45⁰ (light to medium rain but coming in relatively sideways to allow for suitable soaking despite rain clothes.

Walk 2 was a 1.5, 85⁰ (almost a snowflake descending light rain drifting down from above).

Right, i very much doubt the weather services of the World will read this, but there you go….. I like my new system…. And it also keeps you analysing the elements as you adventure.

Happy weekend!
