Have you ever wondered how all of the places you go to and explore got their names?
Over the course of many, many years names develop, evolve and disappear.
Of course there are the names that maps and the general public will use. But then there are also the multitude of nicknames which are given to places.
I have previously written about some of my favourite walk spots.
But my list of walk spot names, which mean absolutely nothing to anybody else but myself, is exhaustive.
Much like giving a friend or your beloved dog a hundred different nicknames, it shows that you are personally connected with these great areas of nature.
Here are but a few
In Maridalen: Paradise, Happy Place, Snowboard Fields, The Avenue, Quarry, The Lookout, Langrenn Lane, The Mini Alps, Japanese Forest…. And many more
On Grefsenkollen: The Playground, The Gulley, Castles in the Sky, Sunshine Hill, Up in the Trees, The Shortcut, Instagram Rocks, Matt’s Valley, Mucky Marsh… And many more
Maybe you can guess at one or two, maybe not.
Go explore and make your own place names!
