How Nature keeps us Humble

200 billion trillion…. Let that number sink in.

No, this number is not the amount in my bank account. It is actually the best current guess for how many stars are in the entire Universe.

Given the size of our own Solar System, the distances become, by all means and purposes, incomprehensible to the human mind.

On one tiny Pale Blue Dot in our Solar System all of us and all of human history lives or has lived.

Focusing even more, we move into Northern Europe and find the long, cold land of Norway.

Taking a microscopic subsection of the woods surrounding the capital city, Oslo, it is here that we base all our Adventures, in the most magnificent settings.

To walk and explore amongst the towering tall trees and in the thick forests makes you feel very small.

Whilst I make no guarantees, I would guess that the trees and nature do not get caught up in the minutiae of things.

The tree does not think to itself that it is maybe carrying an extra kilo or two and therefore should shed a branch.

Or when the wind was blowing a few nights ago and the neighbour tree bumped into it, the tree has not taken it personally and now holds a grudge.

Spending time in, but more importantly being present in, Nature allows us to feel small in a good way.

We are not humiliated or put down by Nature. Yet we recognize the immense force of everything around us and in this way put into perspective the banality of the small issues which we seek to avoid yet overthink.
