I think that my old PE (Physical Education) teachers would be proud. All those years ago when I was in School and we were playing sports, we always needed to do a warm up.
Those same teachers taught me the importance of starting to move your body without stretching whilst cold. Stretching should ideally be left until after you are finished with your exercise or adventure.
Now back to this morning….. I find myself with my five canine companions in a chilly carpark in the Woods.
I have slightly underestimated how cold it would be in the shade before the sun comes over the hill behind us.
I am happy to put my hands up and admit fully that had I known this, I would have put a jumper or two on some of the other dogs.
Yet as always there was a super fun and super simple solution available to us. We would go for the equivalent of three laps around the football pitches and get the blood flowing.
Conveniently there was a gravel track next to us as we upped the tempo and went running. The dogs were absolutely loving the run and it worked out perfectly. Check out the video on Facebook and Instagram if you want to see happy pups.
5 minutes later and tails were still wagging and we were warm enough to explore some fantastic trails and nature.
Fast forward to the afternoon and the sun is much higher in the sky. The temperatures are now hovering around zero and we are ready to explode out of the van and go full Usain Bolt from the first moment.
Two very different and bespoke ways of starting the adventures and yet it is in constantly learning, and adapting our approach, that we try to achieve maximum fun.
