Take a good look around

Yesterday on my drive home from the mountains I unexpectedly got the chance to take a good look around at the gorgeous nature.

Heading back home from Hafjell, after a sunny day on the slopes, I suddenly saw that the E6 was closed.

It was also at this moment that I was very happy that I had told my partner not to tell the kids that daddy would be home for bedtime. (In the end I did make it home just in time for some cuddles before they fell asleep)

Back to my journey….. With the E6 closed this meant that every Oslo bound car was being diverted onto RV4.

As you will well imagine this led to quite a few areas of congested traffic. Whilst some impatient drivers tried to sneak through the queue one place at each roundabout, Minttu and I enjoyed the glorious settings.

The sun was getting lower in the blue sky and casting amazing colours over the hills and frozen lakes.

So I put on a good podcast and just thoroughly enjoyed the scenery. I can guarantee that not enjoying the scenery would not have made my trip any quicker.

All too often, and for very good reason, when we are driving we are unable to really take in everything in our periphery.  The focus on the road detracts from the glorious nature all around…. Which of course can be enjoyed by any passengers in the car.

And here is the funny thing, those impatient drivers who were sneaking the queue and doing unnecessarily dangerous overtakes….. Well, they were about 50 metres in front of my truck when we were at Sinsen Krysset back in Oslo, having saved themselves at most 2 minutes.

Sometimes slowing down and taking it all in can be a positive experience.
