Last Day on Earth – Part 1

Happy Friday!

Today I want to start a new mini blog series which I will write about one item at a time.

Loosely inspired by an old Steve Jobs speech, but also connected to my writings on the Simple Life and Nature, I found myself a couple of weeks back writing down a list of what actions I would undertake if today were my Last Day on Earth.

Hopefully this series might inspire you to make a list of things which you value most.

Life is finite and we never know when this crazy merry-go-round will come to a stop. Hopefully it is in many decades, but there is always the possibility that it is today. This is not in a morbid way, but more so that we can appreciate life and make the most out of each day.

Momento Mori as the Stoics would say.

The things which I wrote down on my list are simple, yet they are things which I cherish most.

If I want to include having a gorgeous Italian lunch and a glass of red wine in a hilltop restaurant in Tuscany, then I must also include all of the time it would take me to travel there and back. This in turn would eat into the limited hours of my final day….

So without further ado I will cover one of the items on my list. They are in no particular order

Part 1 – go for a walk in Nature with Minttu

This may seem like the most obvious thing, and yet this simple principle has shaped my life in countless ways.

My darling dog is with me on almost all of my Dog Adventures. We spend a ridiculous amount of time together. And yet, since she was eight weeks old she has constantly had to share me.

She shares me with all the other dogs who we Adventure with.

She shares me with the rest of the family.

She shares me when we are in the work van and I need to focus.

And so several times a day I ensure that she has my undivided attention so that we can spend quality time together.

Our quality time almost always starts with a simple phrase:

“how are you doing mate? are you okay?”

She is so used to this phrase that when I say it she will come over to me for a cuddle.

So if today was my last day on Earth, there would absolutely be dedicated quality time and an alone walk or two in Nature with Minttu.

Check back in for Part 2 which will come out within the next week.
