That Magical Feeling

Growing up in London suburbia during the 1980s we didn’t get much snow.

Every few years we would get a few centimetres which would create absolute chaos and shut down much of the UK.

I remember on one occasion that there was about 30 centimetres. I went sledding for days as school was closed.

There is something about that magical feeling of first snow each year which brings out the small child in the me. That Magic Moment.

What adds to the magic is when it is not expected. In recent years the forecast has shown when the first snow will arrive and therefore it is not as much of a surprise.

Imagine there for my childish delight upon looking out the window this morning and seeing a white dusting outside.

My eyes widen, a smile spreads across my face and I feel the warmth of true contentment.

Ever since leaving London I have based my choice of location around areas with snow. I do not want to live a couple of hours away from snow, I want to be in the thick of it.

Upon leaving home this morning and walking to the woods with my dog I felt the amazing juxtaposition of the silence of snow and yet that tiny crunch under each footstep.

Even a thin snowy dusting is the perfect underlay for dogs to roll in and enjoy.

Wow, what a Wednesday!
