December Darkness

With the persistent rains of the last few days the snow has mostly washed away.

Gone with it was that extra luminosity which was so welcome at this time of year.

We are entering the darkest 40 days of the year and today it felt like dawn went straight into dusk without the sun rising.

Looking over my photos from my morning adventure, i had to manually enhance the light so that you are able to even identify your dogs below!

It is the yearly cycle of darkness and we should become used to it. But each year it somewhat surprises me.

Arriving home I am amazed to calculate quite how many more dark hours I have to stay awake until bedtime. The temptation is to hibernate each and every evening.

Yet it is the cosy time of year….. When the snow comes then I will motivate myself to head skiing or snowboarding…. But for now long meals, a fire and later a good book and a blanket will not only suffice, but also delight!
