The Locksmith

As we pick up and drop off your dogs there are countless ways of accessing your properties.

Keys, digilocks and keyboxes are of course the most common.

There is also the “Treasure Hunt” option where we get a photo of a plant or doormat and have to go look.

Really it is whatever the owners feel is the most practical way that they personally feel comfortable with.

Some of your locks require a certain technique, jiggle or push up against the door to allow it to open and for your dogs to head out adventuring.

About a week ago when the temperatures were -15 or less, I found myself with a frozen keybox at a certain customer’s house.

Two of the numbers in the required sequence were frozen solid….. I struggled fiddled and breathed hard on the box, eventually managing to get the code punched in somehow and the key out.

Yet it would not go back in.

As I am the only one to use the key box I decided to take it with me in the van and warm it up.

This worked a treat, and yet a couple of days later the same frozen problem returned. Luckily this time the Owner was working from home and could therefore let me in. We agreed on a temporary solution of hiding a key under the mat.

This solution has worked very well and they live in a safe area. However it did not solve the problem of the keybox.

However upon my last visit to pick up the said Doggie adventurer, I decided it was time to fix the key box myself.

One advantage of having an old creaky work van is that you always have WD40 available.

A couple of good sprays later and the offending keybox was now fully functional and ready for the next cold spell.

I must remember to add Locksmith to the list of services which we deliver.
