It never ceases to amaze me how funny dogs are…. They read our subtle movements and are continually watching us for clues.
Upon returning home this afternoon, I had made an arrangement with a friend to go for a quick jog in Oslomarka.
The friend in question has just signed up for a marathon next year and wants to start training now with some easy runs, so as to create the habit of weekly running into their training.
Despite my own dog having joined on my walks today, when we returned home she noticed I was putting on my running kit.
Minttu does not particularly enjoy going on a run with me, as in her opinion I do not throw enough sticks or balls, and it can be a little repetitive and boring for her.
Therefore I prepared her evening meal so as to distract her, but she was not having any of it.
She was looking at me with those big dog eyes, trying to charm me into taking her.
I tried explaining what I was about to do, and also mentioning how she doesn’t particularly enjoy it.
Either she didn’t understand or she was trying to say “this time it will be different”. I have fallen for this trick many times before. It is never different…..
Therefore she decided to try a different tactic. She walked off sulking, before lying down dramatically on the doormat, blocking my only exit route.
In the end and due to my manipulated new sense of guilt I sat down next to her and cuddled her for five minutes.
Eventually I had to get going and had to move into strict parent mode and move her and her blockade out of my way. One very sad border collie, who will no doubt eat her dinner and lie sleeping in her bed while I’m away.
