This morning, on my first dog adventure, I was climbing a ridge. As we got a little higher, and above the sound insulation of the Valley bottom, I started to hear quite a noise.
The higher we explored and the better we could hear it.
It was unmistakable and at best estimate I would think around 1000 migratory birds or geese taking a quick pause on their journey Southwards.
Whilst we had driven to our chosen location I had not heard or noticed them on the plains alongside the road.
Therefore they must have been a good few kilometres away, ironically as the bird flies.
The pure volume and level of noise led me to my conservative estimate of 1000 birds.
I started to ponder how they could possibly rest up, recover and sleep with such noise levels going on around them.
The direction the noise was coming from was actually the opposite way from which we would drive back to Oslo.
And yet the annual bird migration is one of the Wonders of the Natural World.
I therefore decided to head back into the same Valley for my afternoon walk and hopefully catch a glimpse of the birds.
Unfortunately, as luck or nature would have it, they had by this time moved on.
The afternoon dogs and I were still lucky enough to see a few echelons heading Southwards.
Wishing our Bird friends a very pleasant and warmer Winter before we catch up again around Easter.
