The Autumn Conundrum

Oslomarka is absolutely glorious at the moment. The recent rains and fresh temperatures are allowing us to finally have the Autumnal crescendo.

But Autumn also brings tough choices in the Dog Walking world.

Footwear and what to choose come high up on the list.

The woods, and specifically the paths and trails, are starting to get quite muddy and marshy in places. This is leading to wet, slippery conditions.

You would think that Wellington Boots (gummistøvler) would be the right choice of footwear. However they are quite large and cumbersome when you want to go on a proper Adventure. Try doing 20,000 steps a day in Rubber boots and after several days you will feel it in your knees.

Winter hiking boots would work well but they are generally very stiff and best kept on the shoe rack unless it is an emergency.

That leaves us with low ankle trainers and mid ankle hybrid trainers. These are very much my go-to solution, as I prefer to try and skip and dance around the streams and puddles then to wade straight through them.

Some of these trainers come with Gore-Tex options to keep your feet and socks drier, but not all of my favourite shoes have this option.

My personal view, and what I tend to go with, is my most comfortable lightweight and agile trainers regardless of whether they are waterproof or not.

Better to take a few spare pairs of dry socks in my van with which to change into each day and be able to Adventure in the manner I would like.

We would also like to wish Albert (blog poster boy for today) a very happy 5th birthday today. He celebrated by adventuring with his mates in Oslomarka 🐾🍂😎
