In English we have an expression “to carry the weight of the World on your shoulders”.
Luckily my weight was lighter and more spread out.
The weight I was bearing was also completely voluntary and has a purpose.
With the temperatures heading down, and the anticipated arrival of ice and snow in the coming month or so, I have started preparing.
The Winter months, trudging through deep snow can be demanding, especially when breaking trail deep in the woods. Leg burn kicks in and depletes your energy levels.
So I came up with a plan. It is not rocket science, but as often, the simplest plans work the best.
On the weekend I headed out for 2 x 2.5 hour hikes in the woods. On my back was my backpack with a towel and 8kg in weights.

The idea is that the extra load will strengthen my calves, legs and glutes (aka bottom) and therefore make for a seamless transition to deep Winter snow.
This morning and spying a lovely dog adventure hill climb up towards Mellomkollen, the backpack was attached. It is amazing what difference it makes, yet without affecting the pace of the walk.
