When you think about Oslomarka, for most people the mental imagery of lush thick forests and lakes will come to mind.
It is the quintessential idea of the Scandinavian Forest landscape.
Playing understudy to these aspects is the fantastic geological formations upon which Oslomarka grows and thrives.
For fans of geography and geology, the array and abundance of rocks is simply amazing.
The hills, the deep valleys and the open wide marshes and plains are the result of tremendous forces of nature sculpting them over many ice ages.
I love seeing a boulder in the middle of a wide open space and just trying to imagine how it has ended up there, and where it’s journey started!
Some of the rock formations are human influenced, such as the quarries and mines. Yet I always find that nature does a splendid job of creating astonishing scenery.
So next time you are out on your walk remember to look past the greens, foliage, bushes and streams to see what it is all built upon.
