You may have come across the concept of take your child to work day. But have you ever spared a thought for the elder generation?
Of course they may well still a treat you like a small child or talk and talk and talk about the past, but occasionally it is a good idea to take a parent to work, and expose them to modern working conditions.
All the more so if your parent loves dogs and you happen to be a dog walker.
And so it was that I found myself on this Friday being joined by my mother. My parents are in Oslo for a long weekend to see the grandkids and I thought I could get some free labour. No such thing as a free meal.
Over the years my mother has regularly joined up on my walks and was therefore very happy to meet up with a fair few dogs whom she knows well.
Luckily my partner had lent my mum her rubber boots as we were walking in flood terrain. It was spectacular with the afternoon sunshine reflecting off the water and illuminating the array of greens in the mosses that we walked past.
With her rubber boots my mother rekindled her childhood passion for splashing around in puddles and streams, very much living in the moment and accessing the flow state.
And so, whether you are a High Court Judge or an Accountant, why not take a parent to work and see how they can inspire you and your colleagues to go further.
