Nature’s lightshow

Did you see them? Saturday evening Oslo was treated to some Northern Lights.

I have to admit that whilst the main show was up and going I was lying in a blacked out room, hoping my son would not take too long to fall asleep.

Returning from the bedroom half an hour later my phone was full of messages telling me to look out the window.

There was an extremely faint green glow in the distance but I thought I could find better. Luckily I needed to pop out to a supermarket regardless so Minttu and I jumped into the truck.

Nordlys hunting time!

Arriving at Sognsvann carpark there were hundreds of people heading towards the metro.

Not to be discouraged we headed on down to the lake.

And there in the far distance, dancing above the trees, were the retreating Northern Lights.

We had managed to catch the last minute before they were gone.

Last night, and encouraged by another strong possibility of them appearing, I headed out for my night walk well wrapped up.

Minttu and I stood by a frozen lake for close to 1 hour. They did not appear whilst we were there but it was a lovely occasion all the same.

You have to take these chances when the possibility arises.
