It is worryingly dry at the moment in the woods, but especially for this time of year.
After a long and brutal winter with almost record amounts of snowfall, it should not be this dry. We are still in the middle of May and yet the woods are like a tinderbox. If it continues like this I can foresee forest fires during the Summer.
Do not get me wrong it is lovely to have some sunshine back again, but a good weekly dose of rain would also be beneficial.
Roughly one week ago the ants came out and returned everywhere. It is best not to stand still for too long or you end up having to flick them off.
And yet the title of today’s blog does not refer to them.
Today I experienced 2024’s first mosquitoes.
In Oslo and the surrounding areas we normally are spared their presence until mid June. However the conditions right now have led to them arriving early.
Combined with the hot weather right now this is not ideal, as to prevent being bitten you either have to cover yourself in the chemicals or wear a thick jumper or hoodie.
My body is not a big fan of mosquito bites. For some reason, and even with the help of antihistamines, it decides to balloon up with each bite.
Remember that if you are heading into the woods it could be a good idea to cover up. Otherwise be prepared for what could be an itchy summer
