If you followed our social media over the weekend you may well be aware that my family and I were at Mylla, up in Nordmarka, where my partner’s family have had a cabin since the 1950s.
It is a glorious setting and the cabin is right down on the lake.
Yesterday afternoon the sun suddenly came out after some quite wet weather. It was still quite blustery but the lake looked gorgeous.
I decided that it was time to get back on the stand-up paddle board. I used to absolutely love heading out on the board for hours exploring Myllavannet. I have paddled into each and every one of those hidden away estuaries, coves and bays.
And yet yesterday would be different. I set off and paddled towards the West End of the lake and straight into the wind. It was tough going and quite bumpy with the waves. After 25 minutes of non stop paddling I had made it.
Having also made it across to the southern shore of the lake I noticed that I was completely protected from the gales and stormy winds.
I sat down on the board and let the current and flow choose where I would go.
With no mobile phone, no other person, but just the water, the woods and the sound of sheep to keep me company I soaked in everything for 20 minutes.
For someone who is ALWAYS on the go and on the move it was at first challenging and then quite lovely.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is nothing at all. Just go with the flow!
