This afternoon whilst driving to my walk I managed to have a crowd of thirty or so people cheering happily at me.
A huge cry of spontaneous joy, happy faces and waving as I drove past.
No, no, my celebrity status has not reached this stage and I am very happy to remain anonymous.
So what caused this uproar of fun and joviality?
The ever so simple answer is: my car horn.
My new raving fans were a class of school children, impatiently waiting for a delayed bus. The teachers had clearly given up on trying to entertain the crowd and they were all stood in a long line along the pavement.
As I approached I could see that they were doing the international hand gesture for car horn.
It was quite a busy stretch of road and with every car which went past they looked a little bit more dejected that no one would comply.
Well well well, I was once that boy who wanted the cars to make noise. In and around London, most probably as Brits love an excuse to use their car horn, I used to be serenaded by multiple brands of horn ….. Somewhat of an Automobile Orchestra if you will.
Fast forward many, many moons later and I am always happy to bring a smile to a bored set of kids trying to make the most of a moment.
So maybe next time you see the kids eagerly trying to engage you as you drive past, just give a little toot.
I promise you it will also make you smile.
