Mamma and Pappa Hein are once again back in Oslo to see the grandkids. On Sunday we had a little party to celebrate my daughter Anna turning two years old.
My parents have decided to stay for an entire week on this visit, so as to explore and enjoy the beautiful nature before it becomes too cold for them.
I think it is fair to say that -20, deep snow and ice are no longer on their adventure radar in their advanced years.
As is customary with their visits my mother tries to join on a minimum of one dog adventure per day.
This afternoon she joined the gang and I on our adventure deep in the woods.
As we headed out along a boggy path we were struck by the amazing nature surrounding us. With the sunlight streaming down through the trees we were truly spoilt.
The dogs were loving the woods and burning off their energy.
On the way back to the truck I suggested we take a different route to show a viewpoint over the valley. This way has no paths, just a carpet of moss and bushes, bogs and fallen trees.
Within 300 metres I suddenly realised that this path was maybe a little too much for a pensioner. Always one to rise to a challenge I saw my mother straddling a fallen tree and she tried not to slide off the other side of it.
Looking back my path was ambitious for pretty much anyone and everyone….
My mother LOVED IT! On returning to the truck she was smiling and beaming with joy. She explained that never before in her life has she experienced walking on soft moss which feels like you are floating on it.
Just goes to show you are never too old to adventure and never too old to experience completely new things.
