Reconnect

This afternoon my gang and I had the immense pleasure of being joined by a young man from Oslo who would like to start dog adventuring a few times a week.

These requests come in quite often and I am always happy for people to join and see what they are missing.

Over the years I have learnt how to differentiate the more serious people from the dreamers who just fancy a walk.

It is hard to explain but you just get that gut feeling. Some people just light up at the thought of adventure and throw themselves right into the middle of the pack to cuddle the dogs.

I always question people as to their motivation behind wanting to start adventuring with dogs out in the woods. I have heard so many different answers.

Today’s answer struck a chord and I could identify myself in the answer. The young man told me that he felt that whilst he enjoyed the job that he did, he had lost his connection to nature and wanted to understand the woods again.

He works in IT Systems and Artificial Intelligence, and is seeking to balance this lifestyle by also making time to reconnect with a simple way of living and moving in nature.

But these weren’t just hollow words and trying to win me over….. Within minutes of starting the adventure he was down in the mud stroking two playful dogs, I lost count of the amount of sticks he was throwing for the eager puppies and out the corner of my eye I saw him stroking some tree bark.

In England we have an expression which says “don’t count your chickens before they have hatched”.

But we may have found a good new Adventurer
