Losing a dog is one of the hardest things that we will ever go through.
For most owners they have lived through the entirety of their dog’s life.
From a chaotic and cute eight week old puppy until the unstable, mature and dignified old dog who we nurse through their final months.
In the aftermath of a dog dying many owners say they will not put themselves through it again.
And yet owning a dog and having it as a family member is a way of life and not an accessory. For dog people, a home without a dog is simply not a home.
You may remember earlier this year a blog post regarding the neighbour of one of my clients. This neighbour has never used us for dog walking, and yet waves to us each and every time we pick up her neighbour’s dog.
This neighbour lost dog earlier this year and I went to talk to her upon hearing the news. We all the mourn the loss of a dog as we know the pain it causes.
About 1 month later this neighbour was having coffee with my client when I returned from a dog walk.
She suddenly started asking me questions about lots of different breeds. This conversation ended up with her coming to the van and greeting all of the remaining dogs. I could see that it helped with the healing process.
Fast forward many months later and I got the lovely news that this neighbour has just received an 8 week old puppy to keep them busy. The Dog Cycle continues…..
