Saturday morning and my alarm goes off at 6 a.m.
It is an early start for the weekend, especially given that both of my kids are still fast asleep.
And yet I know that I will need to start early if I wish to achieve my Mini Adventure today.
I have picked a ridge 9km from home, from which I want to watch the sunrise. The plan formulated a few days ago in my mind, and when I knew that it would be a clear starry night, and therefore a clear blue sky sunrise, it was always on.
According to the internet the Sun should rise at 8:12 a.m.
Whilst running in the dark with a head torch, I estimate it will take me 45 to 55 minutes to get there.
But first I need to walk three dogs and give them their breakfast. We have two doggie guests staying for the weekend and I need to make sure that they are all happy first. The 18km round trip is a bit too much for the 2 elderly ladies and Minttu needs to rest up after joining all 10 of my walks last week.
Eventually I am up, out and running. I decide to take a meandering trail through the Woods and this is where I realise I should have charged my head torch the previous evening.
To conserve the battery I dim the strength of the head torch and pick my way around the roots and stones, littered as obstacles. This is certainly a good way to sharpen your focus early morning.
Eventually I emerge onto one of the ski tracks and follow it for a few kilometres as the sky starts to lighten. By now I can turn off my useless head torch and I proceed uphill making good time.
Eager not to miss the sun breaking over the Horizon I end up going off trail and clambering up deep, wet vegetation, just in case the internet time is wrong.
The internet is indeed wrong with regards to sunrise time. I arrive at my spectacular viewpoint looking down over Maridalen with 3 minutes to spare.
I am hot and quite sweaty after a fantastic run. Yet by the time the sun actually crests the Horizon I have been there for over 15 minutes and I am now quite cold.
I soak up a quite wonderful sunrise before running full speed back down the hill to Hammeren to try and get my blood flowing and some warmth back into my body.
But not before I record a quick personal video to send to a good friend’s children. The aim is not only to share a quite beautiful view over nature with them, but to inspire future adventurers.
Later on Saturday I receive a wonderful video from them thanking me. It helps to warm up my still cold hands.
If you have not yet done so and would like to check out the Sunrise, I uploaded a video of the Mini Adventure to our Instagram and Facebook.
