The Joy of Nothingness

I’ve written about and around the main topic of today’s blog many times before. Yet I feel it’s a very important topic.

Yesterday morning I ventured out into the woods with my puppy for a Sunday stroll.

As we were deciding where to walk I made the conscious decision to head to a rare area where there is no mobile phone reception.

I also decided that I would not take my phone out of my pocket for the entirety of the walk.

Modern times are synonymous with distraction, and attention deficit.

And yet here I found myself with my darling dog, alone in some fantastic nature.

Over the course of the first 10 minutes I found myself subconsciously reaching for my phone. Whether to check the weather or just to write a reminder. But it stayed firmly in my pocket.

I allowed the little voice in my head to run free.

About 5 minutes later and the ideas started to flow. Whilst I was keen to jot them down, I decided to let them evolve.

All of this, of course, whilst throwing sticks and snowballs for one happy border collie.

By the time I returned home I not only felt energized but I had come up with several topics for this week’s blog alongside some great spots where I plan to explore this week. My mind felt clearer and more focused for having let the thinking flow.

When we are continuously alternating between thought and allowing our attention to be derailed by technology we never allow the creativity to run it’s course.

There is also the added value and importance of being present when we are out adventuring with our beloved dogs. They deserve our attention…… And we deserve to reclaim our attention.

Happy Monday
