VE Day at 80

Today, 8th May, marks 80 years to the day since the end of the Second World War in Europe.

VE Day stands for Victory in Europe Day. But there are no winners in war, only losers. The Victory was a cessation of the War, which ultimately led to the creation of a unified Europe which has stayed, for the most part, peaceful for the 80 years since.

This in turn has allowed for Europe to become much more multicultural in each and every country.

We have a wonderful collection of Walkers from a variety of countries, continents and cultures, including Colombia, Czech Republic, Iran, Spain, France, Netherlands, Germany, Norway and Britain.

Ironically just over 80 years ago some of our relatives would have been on opposite sides, enemies one minute….. and then peaceful as the end of the war in Europe was announced.

I think our ancestors would be proud of how future generations have collaborated joyfully and peacefully.

Nationality and borders are no more than a human construct to exert control, power and greed.

Take 2 dogs from 2 different countries and they will not label the other as anything more than another dog to meet, greet and potentially play with.

So as we remember all those who gave their lives or fought to protect the freedoms we take for granted, maybe we should take inspiration from our dogs with regards to what to value in life.
