What an absolutely glorious end to our first Walking Week back.
With some of our regulars taking an extended summer holiday, I found myself in the luxurious position of having just one long Dog Adventure today.
I took the opportunity to go and meet an extremely friendly, gentle giant of a dog (and his owner), who will be joining us from early next week.
Meeting done and it was time to head out into the sunshine and go adventure.
Whilst picking up my pack I was contemplating where we should explore today. I decided that we would head to Maridalen and then make it up as we went along. Just check out where other people were parked and find a spot where we would not be disturbed.
I settled on a location where I have not walked for the last few months. It would seem that not too many others have walked here in my absence, as some of my favourite trails to access the unknown were overgrown with rather tall bushes.
No obstacle too big and we ploughed literally through the undergrowth. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a ridge, high up where I have never been. After 12.5 years of daily dog adventuring, these types of opportunities to explore a new area become less and less frequent.
And so we went off trail, clambering and picking our way up the slope. We needed to snap a few dead branches to gain access. But when we finally got up to the top of the ridge, we stood atop a plateau where I doubt many have explored before. There were no signs of paths and no signs of human intervention.
We soaked up the surrounding nature in the sunshine, the views over the tree canopy, before picking our way back down and hopping over fallen trees and crashing through thick bushes.
Happy weekend!
