The Darkness Enroaches

It was a little bit fresh early this morning. The first warning signs of Autumn are gradually appearing day by day.

Last Thursday evening after visiting a friend, who I’ve not caught up with for a few years, I returned to the van to drive home. It suddenly dawned on me that it was dark.

It was the first time since maybe Easter that I had had to drive in darkness and it was a very strange sensation to become reacquainted with. The evenings are getting shorter.

I like to wake up relatively early so as to get stuff done before my kids wake up and the working day starts. This morning for the first time in many months I opened the blinds and the sun had not come over the horizon. The mornings are getting shorter.

With the receding amount of daylight, the early mornings and late evenings are understandably cooler. It is time to find my jumpers and hoodies.

And yet I approach all of this with a sense of excitement. Autumn is my second favourite season, if I were to rank them.

The extra good news is that my favourite season is Winter which comes afterwards. Yes, yes winter is cold and dark. But it is also snow-filled Adventures and ski season.

And so I find myself, on this gorgeous of August days, appreciating the start of the changing colours, the cool breeze and Nature’s natural yearly life cycle.
