Sunday Adventure

Yesterday morning I found myself waking up early. In fact it was about 4:40am, which even for me, is early for a Sunday.

But I had a good gang staying for the weekend. I wanted to get started early for our long adventure.

The early start brought a lot of benefits, mainly that we would meet very few people and that the best of the Sunday weather would be very early in the day before the cooler winds arrived in Oslo.

And so, after 1 coffee as i was getting dressed and another van coffee, we found ourselves, quite alone, at Mobekken car park with the dawn light slowly turning the sky lighter.

We set off towards Maridalsalpene at a light jog…. To both wake up and warm up down in the shade in the valley.

My loose plan was to explore further from the point I had got to on my Friday adventure with the dogs. I wanted to discover what lay above the ridgeline we had explored but ran out of time.

The trail soon disappeared and we needed to navigate woods and shrubland to access the peak.

Suddenly we came into a clearing where we could gaze up at Mellomkollen towering in front of us, yet the ravine separating the 2 hills meant it would have to be another day.

But we did have time to scramble and slide down the slope to the river at the bottom where the track would meander around the hill and bring us full circle to the van.

For those of you who don’t know Maridalsalpene I highly recommend taking some trips up there. It is the closest “fjell” feeling you will get to Oslo.
