Is it still raining?

For those of you who are old enough, or into classic British Rom-Com films, you may remember the scene at the end of 4 Weddings and a Funeral.

Andie MacDowell stands in the pouring rain outside Hugh Grant’s house, trying desperately to find the words to tell him that she loves him. She utters the words “is it still raining? I hadn’t noticed”.

This scene, over the years, has actually been voted one of the worst in the whole of cinema history. People cringe as they watch it.

And yet, today I was almost MacDowell myself, without the confession of love.

Post adventures I needed to stop by my local Kiwi Supermarket (other brands available, despite everything being controlled by the 3 main retails giants anyways).

As I’m sure you can well imagine, and with my propensity to enjoy small talk, I know most of the staff at my local Kiwi and they know me and what I work with (I can observe them spotting me from afar and hiding behind the aisles).

Queuing up for the Checkout with a human Cashier, I had my captive audience.

The man, who shall remain anonymous, despite me knowing his name, asked how my day had been with the dogs. He went on to say that it must have been pretty miserable in the woods with all the rain today.

I paused for a moment, trying to think back over my Adventures and over the day….. Yes it being a bit wet, but it had also been unbelievably fun.

This morning I had jogged with my dogs, and this afternoon I had hiked up to Mellomkollen with my old colleague Christina. But had it rained?

I genuinely couldn’t remember whether it had rained or not. I even turned around to look outside of the supermarket and witnessed the rain coming down.

I turn back around to my best Kiwi mate and just answered that “I hadn’t noticed if it had rained today”. Bang! I was Andie MacDowell, and my Green-clad amigo would have been forgiven for thinking I must be an idiot.

But it was true, I couldn’t really recall any rain, but I had worn waterproofs all day and they were thoroughly drenched and drying in the van.

Lost in the fun of it all.
