The Impromptu Removal Man

A little funny story from yesterday to share with you all.

Having finished my afternoon Dog Adventure, I was dropping back some tired and happy dogs.

As I pulled up outside one customer’s place, I spotted a pickup truck with a bed and mattress in the back.

It was a relatively new, fancy and expensive pickup truck which belonged to a large Norwegian company.

My guess was that the driver had either taken a break from work or a half day so that he could help transport this bed for someone.

I returned my Canine Adventuring Friend to their property and started to walk back to my truck.

As I approached the other pickup, I saw the driver struggling to lift the bed frame out of the pickup all alone whilst a woman stood nearby holding the door.

I jogged over and asked if he would like help taking it down from the truck. He thanked me but by then the bed frame was more or less on the pavement.

He joked that if I wanted to I could help carry it up to the 5th floor on the tight and winding staircase without any lift. He certainly wasn’t being serious, as he puffed and chuckled.

Be careful what you ask for…..

I put my lead down on the bonnet of my truck, rolled up my sleeves and said “come on then”.

He said that some other people would be along in five minutes to help him and that it wasn’t necessary for me to help.

I informed him that in half that amount of time the bed would be on the 5th floor and it was no problem. I then picked up one end of the bed and waited.

It was a little heavy, it was a little difficult to get the frame around the tight corners, we had to lift it over a few bannisters higher up…. But I don’t think it took more than three minutes out of my day.

As we arrived back down at the Entrance Door his friends showed up. They naturally asked him where the bed was.

He explained that a stranger walking past had offered to take it up with him.

They laughed as if he was a World-class comedian….. They then looked over his shoulder, saw me coming down the stairs, bidding them a good rest of the day. Their expressions seemed to change from laughter to mild shock and surprise.

I have written previously about how random moments and experiences both enrich my life and hopefully the lives of those around me.

Taking 5 minutes out of any day to help is a true pleasure.
