Time to charge the Head Torches

Every morning, Monday to Friday, before I drop my two eldest kids in kindergarten, Minttu (my border collie) and I take a 15 to 20 minute walk up in the woods behind where we live.

I have previously written about these “reconnaissance walks” and how I use them to figure out what clothes and equipment I will use for the coming day of Adventures. Nothing like getting out and testing the terrain to get immediate feedback.

But this morning, 16th October, the piece of equipment I realized that I was sorely missing was a head torch.

Whilst the nights have been closing in for a good while now, and I have of course used my head torch in the evenings, this morning was the first noticeable time that I struggled to see the terrain underfoot. Not to worry however, as after seven years of living near these woods, I know most of the paths and the roots & obstacles, even blindfolded.

Just over two months out from what will be the shortest day (in daylight hours)…. And it would seem that this third of the Year which we are starting is at least daily double head torch time.
