Daylight Savings

Hello and happy helg to you all.

A gloriously wet end to the Walking Week as Autumn set in and reminded us quite how varied and lovely the conditions can be out in the Oslomarka.

As the darkness encroaches ever further, this Sunday sees the end of Daylight Savings time, as the clocks go back!

One hour of extra “daylight” in the morning is very slim rewards for losing an hour of potential afternoon daylight.

For Oslo residents it most likely means that from Monday next week until mid February we will head to work in the dark and return home in the dark.

Over the past decade numerous attempts have been tabled for ending Daylight Savings time, but for external pressures, politics and Wars to keep it in place for the time being.

It would be lovely if the World could continue on Summer Time hours…. The shift from an agricultural to an industrial workforce, combined with modern technologies and flexible working hours, negates the need for actual extra morning daylight.

Come on UN, do something useful for once and put an end to this unnecessary Worldwide jetlag.

Happy Weekend
