Happy Wet Monday to you all.
It is time for Part 4 of my Last Day on Earth series of blogs.
If you are unsure what is happening go back and read parts one, two and three.
Today the item on my list is very personal and one of my absolute favourite activities – “hang out with my kids”.
After a long weekend of Solo parenting of my two eldest kids I will not at all pretend that I have cracked the parenting code.
Like any good siblings they have arguments. I also still end up making food on command which they refuse to eat 30 seconds later, asking for something else instead.
However what you might notice from my list item is that we “hang out” instead of me trying to control, look after or take care of two mini individuals with their unique personalities.
I sometimes feel like I am there as a referee in order to facilitate their child-lead activities and adventures.
I try to include them within the decision making processes so that they feel a sense of autonomy. Daddy will help out when needed and when he is asked to, but I try to develop independence and self-reliance in them from a young age.
“No, we can’t have sweets for breakfast” but here are three different alternatives which you are able to choose from.
I was never a massive fan of small children before the three kids were born.
Their arrival has given more meaning with regards to Life in general.
Hanging out with my kids is always a great adventure. Yesterday after building a fort out of several duvets and a mattress, we had a 30 minute pillow fight.
I genuinely can’t tell you whether the kids or Daddy had the most unbridled fun during this soft but intense conflict.
All too often in Life we feel that we need to control in order to not fear something happening. Yet in reality releasing the need to control allows for Adventure, as long as the risks have been evaluated.
Happy Monday!
