Forging New Trails

If you, like me, live in Oslo then you will have most likely woken up to a good dump of snow.

It was one of those glorious days where you knew snow would slow down any personal time scale you might have.

Pre kindergarten drop off I had already cleared the snow off the van and done the majority of the driveway.

As I was pushing the buggy, with my daughter in it, through the deep snow, my son was walking alongside me.

He told me that daddy and the buggy were much like a snow plow and that we were clearing a path.

Clearly I was in full Explorer modus by this time, and I turned to him and said “we will clear a path and forge a new trail so that others may follow in our footsteps”. It was slightly grandiose but at the same time fitting of a day which would be spent Adventuring.

Once out in the woods at some fantastic locations we found untouched deep powder snow.

For certain of our dogs it was a day of accumulating snowballs in their fur. We tried our best to break them, but they kept returning.

The dogs in question did not seem to mind overly, and it was a bit of an extra workout with the additional weight.

It is quite remarkable how much slower deep snow makes the tempo of the Adventures. Every footstep takes effort for both humans and dogs.

Yet it is also important for us to break lots of trails out in the woods before the snow becomes too heavy, so that others can also enjoy these areas.

The same applies for the parking spots, and it is important to drive in some tracks so that people continue to park there and use it before the snow turns concrete solid.

All in all another fine day of Adventuring here in the Oslo Woods
