Reading the Snow – part 2

This afternoon I was unbelievably fortunate enough to be joined by my good friend and former Dog Walking colleague Christina.

We had arranged that I would pick her and her two dogs, Bob and Mimzy, up and that we would head off for a good Adventure with my pack.

I had Minttu with me and together with Christina’s doggies we would be 10 dogs and 2 Walkers as we explored.

Whenever you have a sizable pack you try and find a secluded area so as that you will not disturb anyone else.

Arriving at our planned walk spot we saw that there was another car parked about 30 metres from where we would start. This was not ideal as it looked like a dog had been in the car and so would potentially be in the woods.

Generally speaking people who walk their dogs in such remote, secluded areas don’t always have the friendliest dogs, and most likely don’t want to bump into a big pack of happy bouncing doggies.

We needed to decide fast, so I parked the van and told everyone to stay put whilst I examined the other car.

As I arrived at the other car I could see paw prints around it…. However what I noticed most was that there were no fresh human shoe prints in the snow heading into the woods we wanted to explore.

I crossed the road to the only other viable path, crouched down low and examined both shoe prints and paw prints. They matched those by the car on the other side of the road. They also headed in the opposite direction from where we would Adventure.

I jogged happily back to the van waving that we could proceed as originally planned. And so we let the dogs out (there is the answer to the company question).

Sometimes a quick bit of amateur detective work will go a long way in establishing where is best to explore.
