Treasure Hunt season has begun

Almost every Summer when I was a boy I would holiday at my grandparents’ house in Northern France.

Set in a little seaside town, the beach stretched for kilometre after kilometre. My grandparents’ house had a large field behind it, and beyond that were the sand dunes leading to the beach.

With a large French family, and my uncles and aunts also sending their children to be looked after by our grandparents, it inevitably turned into a sort of Cousin Adventure Summer Camp.

Every morning we would head down to the beach after breakfast and go for a long walk.

We would be searching for “trésors de la mer”, as my grandfather would say. What treasures the tides would have washed upon the shores was always unknown.

It taught me that treasure, and its value, are actually objective and in the eye of the beholder.

To give you an idea as to how much washes up on these Shores, we managed to build a hut for the cousins purely from driftwood and other so-called treasures as decorations.

Well, all these years later it is a new type of daily Treasure hunting. As the snow melts we are finding lost objects from this Winter.

Most found are the paw socks, then leads, tennis balls ,vests and last year I even found 2 car keys. As some of you will know, if you write your phone number or name on paw socks, then when we find them we return them to you and your dog.

Found car keys were handed in after a quick unsuccessful search to try and see if I could contact the owners directly.

Why not join the hunt and go search up in Oslomarka whilst walking your dog? With the melting snow the woods are pure gold chests for those dogs who love sticks and pine cones.
