April Everest Challenge

I’ve always been very drawn to the mountains. As a young boy the highlight of the calendar year was our annual family ski trip in the French Alps.

I love the dramatic scenery but I also enjoy the challenge of ascending and descending.

I find that the vertical metres are always a joy.

I have lived in the French Alps on two separate occasions and was always known as a bit of a mountain goat for the way in which I walked, or ran, uphill with limited extra effort.

I have taken these joys and incorporated them into my dog walks without ever really having tracked it…… Until now!

At the end of March I got a new watch, which not only tracks my steps, but also how many vertical metres I do on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.

13 days into the month and having looked over the stats on the weekend, I think it’s time to put in an April Challenge.

The aim will be to cover, during the course of April, the vertical height of Everest (8849 metres from sea level) in Oslomarka with your dogs.

Not wishing for you to all imagine that I will be purely marching up and down hills with your dogs, I will also be covering at least the distance for a return walking trip to Everest from Katmandu.

As a father of three small kids, and also with a responsibility for all your dogs, I can’t just jet off to the Himalayas and attempt this challenge. It must be virtual this time.

Hence it will be a “backyard challenge” undertaken in Oslomarka. My “Sherpas” will be your dogs.

So keep following and at the end of April I will release the stats.
