World Cup Fever

I will start by offering my congratulations to Norway on the well-deserved victory during the middle of the night.

I know that some of you braved the early hours so as to watch the game. Despite having played football for well over 30 years of my life, I had to make the decision about the timing of the match.

Realistically had I stayed up, or even woken up during the night, to watch the game, I would not have had as much energy and focus to be able to dedicate to your dogs today.

And this has nothing to do with the fact that it was Norway. I will not stay up this evening to watch the England match either, as I value my sleep and recuperation more than most other things.

Last night during the early evening I popped down to town as I needed to pick up a key and also say goodbye to a dear customer and their dogs who will be leaving Oslo.

As I drove down to the city centre I was impressed by the wave of red that I witnessed. Norway was ready for World Cup Fever.

The plan had been to stop by for 10 minutes to say goodbye to dogs and customer, and not outstay my welcome when they have a lot of things to be getting on with logistically before they move.

And yet we had so much to talk about, and before we knew it our goodbye had taken over two hours of unbelievably pleasant company. I will miss both customers and their dogs truly. We have gone on so many Adventures and I have felt welcome into their extended Family.

Upon driving home with a certain sense of tristesse, the bars were starting to overflow and the roads around the National Football Stadium were already closed as fans came out in force.

I wish my adopted home country every success in this World Cup and hope that the journey is a long one.
