Berry good timing

This year they are late!

At this corresponding time last year we had been picking blueberries as a snack on the walks for a week or so, if not longer.

After a long, cold Winter clearly the berry season has taken a little more time to get going and ripen.

The blueberries, of which there are millions out in Oslomarka, have made unbelievable progress over the last week alone.

However they are still quite sour, and my best guess but would be that they need another 7 to 10 days, depending on your taste preferences.

Personally I like the tangy nature of slightly sour berries. Therefore yesterday I started picking three to five berries every 10 minutes or so so as to get some free nutrition and energy throughout the Adventures.

It is remarkable how you can pick berries whilst not breaking stride or ruining the flow of a Dog Adventure.

Some dogs, such as my own, absolutely love diving into the bushes and eating them straight off the bush. Others enjoy the berries but they need to be hand-fed as if it were a dog snack. And some are just not aficionados of berries.

My own kids also absolutely love heading into the woods to pick berries with Daddy. Therefore it is important that I ensure that the berries are ripe and sweet enough before we go explore together.

When the berries taste good to them, it makes the whole mission a lot easier.

I can also confirm that the wild strawberries abd raspberries also need a little more time.

But if you find yourself next week contemplating walking your dogs in the woods around Oslo, then I thoroughly recommend taking a bucket and maybe a berry picker and stocking up for the coming months.
