It is time for Part 2 of the new Blog Series. If you have not seen Part 1, then go back to the homepage, scroll down and you will find it last week.

Part 2 – Getting a good night’s sleep

At the risk of sounding like an old man, there really are few things better in this World than getting a good night’s sleep.

The realisation that you are tired and need to get to bed early to relax and recharge, both your body and mind, is a wonderful thing.

The distractions of modern society mean that all too often when we are tired we will scroll the internet or watch some TV to unwind when we feel depleted towards the end of the day.

This, very often, leads to getting to bed later than one would wish and then getting not enough hours and good quality sleep, as we would have both hoped for, and desperately needed.

Last night I was in this very position around 9:00 p.m.

It had been a fun but very long day.

Whilst I tend to go to bed early and wake up early…. 9:00 p.m. seemed a little farcical to be climbing into bed, having switched off my phone and removed any potential distractions.

And yet I knew I was tired and my mind had been overthinking things which were completely outside of my control.

There was nothing left to get out of staying up for a few extra hours until it went dark.

My own dog had been on four walks during the day and was happy and sleeping already.

I checked that my alarm was set for 5:30am as a backup. As with most days, it would never ring this morning.

04:45 this morning my body naturally woke me up full of energy and feeling like I was ready to take on Wednesday both physically and mentally.

That extra energy has followed me throughout today and allowed a midweek energetic “reset button” to have been pressed.

We often fight the urge to go to bed early in the thought that we might miss out on some late night adventure, or something exciting happening. All too often however we miss out on nothing more than good quality sleep.
