It is fantastic that all Oslo Schools take the kids up and out into Oslomarka. It is crucial that young children get a connection with Nature.
The benefits will be lifelong and both physical and psychological. In a busy modern World, an escape to Nature can be a lifesaver.
Anyways, once the kids have finished their outings in Oslomarka, they need to somehow get back to school.
Today I saw about 100 kids (no lie) at a bus stop by the entrance to Maridalen. It would be a long wait as there were so many of them it would require a few bus loads.
The kids were standing at the bus stop willing and pleading for passing cars, trucks and vans to use their horns. From a distance I saw and heard no responses.
I actually used to be a kid, and I’m sure I did the same. I understand how a simple act can brighten a dull moment. I also know how one horn can set of a concerto….. It is as if other drivers suddenly don’t want to be the ones “not to do it”.
So I happily blasted my horn for a good few seconds. What came next was amusing. The massive freight truck behind me did the same, followed by 4-5 other cars in quick succession.
I actually needed to drop a dog only 30-40 metres away and throughout the entire drop off, I kept hearing car horns.
The Horn Concerto was in full swing and there were some unbelievably happy kids.
I, of course, blasted the horn once more post dropping off the dog and driving past again.
