Today on my walks I have been thinking about expectations.
This all came about after a quick chat with the mother of a client who was home when I picked up one of my dogs.
We were talking about the weather and the fact that Autumn had started. As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog I am a big fan of Autumn.
We were talking about the rain and wet weather this week. I told her that I loved the misty and wet conditions. And then came the sentence which led to the topic of today. I said “I don’t like the wet weather during Summer as I expect it to be warm and blue skies”.
And yet the temperature and conditions today are really not at all dissimilar to what we experienced during parts of July and August.
And so I am left contemplating how my experience of those wet Summer days was approached in a completely different way to the excitement I have had this week.
It is of course important to be prepared for all weathers, eventualities and conditions. But going forwards I will be aware of not attaching expectations and labels to things.
Hopefully by challenging these pre-conceptions and prejudices it will allow me to be more flexible, grateful and adaptable in my thoughts.
