It’s all gone rather monochrome

We are firmly into the darkest period of the year. Only 8 days to go until the shortest day.

Out in the woods it is all rather monochrome. The abundance of autumn colours have been replaced with the black and white of winter.

And yet we could not be happier about it.

In my 12 years in Oslo this is the best start we have had to a winter. The first snow fell at the end of October and it has not left the woods since.

Today I found a glorious snow pocket hidden away in one of my favorite secret valleys. It was deep and it was wonderful.

That was no one else around to witness our joy. It was probably for the best otherwise there would be reports of the Madman of Maridalen.

I lost count of the amount of times I shouted yeah, yay or yes. It was just too good to remain silent about. Shout it loud and proud.

My favourite season of the year arrived early and is delivering in style.
