The Hideout

I must have walked past it 50 times, but maybe countless more, whilst never spotting it.

And then suddenly with the leaves having fallen off the trees in front of it, I caught the sunlight reflecting on it.

It was high up on a steep ledge above where I was adventuring with the dogs. It would not be easy to access from this side, especially with all my dogs and therefore I knew I had to come back at a later time just with Minttu to take a closer look.

I don’t really want to give away the location of the little hideout so I will just say that I spotted it on one of my walks over the last 10 days. I have tried to keep the photos I have taken vague on purpose so that it can remain standing and in peace.

Earlier this year ironically I had also wanted to build a tiny hideout on a steep ledge not too far away. The plan was that it would be my secret little oasis of calm to visit and retreat to.

When we returned to take a closer look I decided that Minttu and I would tackle it by climbing the rockface…. It was a steep boulder field, with some moving rocks. The adventure never stops.

Finally approaching the hideout I could finally see how small it was and yet appreciate the tree top canopy view that it commanded.

I peeled back the tarpaulin and had a little look inside.

The hideout was super simple and yet it seemed to offer everything you would want in its simplicity.

Someone clearly did not want to be found here and wanted a retreat and some solitude. I didn’t touch or move anything and replaced the tarpaulin exactly how I had found it.

Their little secret hideout is safe.
