Banipal – a true gentleman

I was extremely saddened to learn late yesterday afternoon of the sudden passing of my great friend, Banipal.

Anyone who follows our blog will know exactly who he is. The gorgeous smiling Chocolate Labrador,  who we have had the immense pleasure of adventuring with for many years.

If anyone had asked me who is the most popular dog on our walks, the answer would be Banipal.

All of the other dogs who he met over the years just seemed so happy in his presence.

After the passing of one of his good friends Punky, just over 1 month ago, the dynamic of my Wednesday morning group has somewhat changed. There has been a natural passing and handover to the younger generation.

I still feel very much in shock that I will not see my friend again. He was in fantastic spirits last Wednesday as he joined me for my birthday. I would never have guessed that this was to be our last Adventure after so many amazing experiences together. And yet life has a way of always reminding you how little control you actually have.

I would like to share a lasting memory from last week’s walk. Tesla, who lived with Punky and has been a little lost and low since she died, was walking by my side. Banipal could clearly feel that her energy and spirits needed a little lift. He bounded over to her gleefully and started licking her face… and then tried to instigate her into playing with him as they have done so many times over the years. I literally witnessed the change of her mood as this happened. It was as if her dark clouds had lifted.

Banipal did not like to see people or dogs upset or sad. His purpose and mission was to spread positivity, kindness and love.

He will be sorely missed by everyone he came into contact with.

My most heartfelt condolences go out to his owners, Bjørn and Bjørn.

Rest in peace B-P and thank you again for the adventures 🐾❤️
